This project was for international designers to produce ten different park benches that challenge the traditional bark bench. There are some great designs and this simple idea for activating a space is wonderful. We particularly like the Cushy bench by Hägglund &amp; Gripner which imagines the park as a homely lounge room. It will stop in New York and Toronto on its way to Vancouver.Some of the Serpentine Pavilions have been purchased by private collectors and others have been bought by companies and re-purposed. This contemporary addition in Kew is really starting to take shape now that the framing is up and the brickwork is underway.The image above shows a view from the backyard looking towards the entertaining spaces. The image below shows the transition space defining the old and new. This contemporary addition in Kew is really starting to take shape now that the framing is up and the brickwork is underway.</div><div>The image above shows a view from the backyard looking towards the entertaining spaces. The image below shows the transition space defining the old and new. This house was in a Heritage Overlay and had a covenant from the 1920s stating that all buildings must have a roof made wholly of slates or tiles and, walls constructed wholly of brick. The project architect carefully selected materials to create a fresh and contemporary addition to this heritage home. One in the light timber finish in a lounge area and one in white to the master suite. They both look incredible, are made from sustainably harvested bamboo, and have a top energy rating. One of the materials that has refreshed the interior giving the living area a contemporary feel was the timber flooring. The flooring we used in this project is Urban Oak's engineered timber in 'Driftwood Lacquer' (through Eco Timber) which is a direct stick application; great for renovations. The warm colour compliments the timber veneer joinery as well as the striking natural grey stone island bench in the kitchen. The boards we selected are a generous 220 wide. The design was inspired by natural honeycomb and the architects collaborated with a bee keeper to house 160,000 bees.
